It confirms an address is well-formed, flags disposable and role-based addresses, suggests corrections for likely typos, and checks the domain is set up to receive mail. It runs at syntax and domain depth — no mailbox is contacted — so it is free and unlimited.
The free check confirms format and domain. A paid check goes further and contacts the mail server to confirm the specific mailbox exists, catching addresses that look fine but cannot actually receive mail.
A catch-all domain accepts mail to any address, so a server saying yes does not prove the mailbox is real. We flag catch-all results as risky rather than pretending they are confirmed.
